B.Ed. (Hons.) Adv. Dip. Psych. Cert. Supervision.
Founder CSA, Co-founder Mentor Coaches International.
Supervisor and Associate with Full Potential Group
Member: Association for Coaching.
Experience: I have been coaching since 1999 and I trained with Coachu, graduating in 2002. I began supervising senior managers and psychotherapists in 1991 and know the value of supervised practice. In 2000, I recognised the need for supervision in coaching and established the very successful Supervision-on-Call, thus pioneering the practice of supervision for coaches in the UK. In 2002, more supervisors were needed and so Miriam Orriss and Fiona Adamson joined Supervision-on-Call. It is from this beginning that the Coaching Supervision Academy has grown.
I am Course Director for the CSA Diploma in Coaching Supervision , run live Coaching Supervision groups in Sussex , supervise Executive and Personal Coaches, Psychotherapists, and Senior Managers, both individually and in groups. I also work as a Supervisor for Coaching Companies (eg. Full Potential Group, Hanover Foundations, DBM) and for specific Coaching Groups and Coaching Projects. Through CSA, I run a 2-day Supervision Skills Training for peer supervision groups, Advanced Training Days in London, Brighton and Bristol, and I give presentations on Coaching Supervision.
Training : I did my coaching training with Coachu and have trained in Supervision in the following ways: after nine years' postgraduate psychotherapeutic training in London and Italy, I trained for 18 months in Psychoanalytic Supervision, learning the theoretical underpinnings of supervisory work. Then I trained for two years in Clinical Supervision at The Centre for Transpersonal Psychology in London - an accrediting body for the United Kingdom Council for Psychotherapy. This intensive, practical training was both creative and broad-based and it opened the way for me to supervise in a variety of professional contexts.
My own work has been supervised by supervisors from several different traditions for over 25 years. I have learned so much from this and greatly value being able to reflect on, and think through client work, in this way.
My commitment is to develop coaches through Coaching Supervision and to offer a first class, flexible service which meets a wide range of coaching contexts.

I love working with individuals and groups to transform their personal and working lives. My supervision style is encouraging, challenging and inspirational. My experience tells me that we cannot listen to the true note of our clients in whatever work we are doing until our own true note is heard.
I am also a clay portrait sculptor, and find this is teaching me a great deal about really looking and really seeing what is actually there, noticing the richness and detail of my subjects' unique face and head.
Experience:
I taught Social Studies at postgraduate level for several years during which I did consultancy work in the Oil industry, and was a government advisor in the Drugs field. My research fields were work groups, the subject of my Masters thesis, and Computer Assisted Learning. Since 1990 I have run a succcessful psychotherapy, supervision, consultancy, training and coaching business, in the private and public sectors with clients from business, coaching, teaching and psychotherapy. Experience.
I have been involved in supervision for 20 years in several contexts: Supervision-on-Call™, coaching projects, senior managers, senior management teams, front line practitioners, psychotherapists and counsellors. I have supervised individual coaches, and teams of coaches. As part of my responsibilities in overseeing and managing a Department within a Local Authority, I have written Supervision Policies, Procedures and Protocols, and have trained senior and middle managers in Supervision Skills. I am familiar with balancing legal, procedural and professional requirements with understanding, care and compassion for the individuals concerned. This is especially valuable when supervising coaches within the corporate sector and organisations.
Training.
Supervision training was an integral part of a six-year period of training in Transactional Analysis Psychotherapy at Metonia Institute of Psychotherapy and Personal Development in London. I extended my supervision skills and experience during a 12 - year period of participating in a Professional Supervision Group which consisted of senior psychotherapists. In addition to my core training, I have attended a specific intensive training course in Supervision and Contractual Relationships, with Fanita English. Within the context of a senior management role, I have attended many leadership, and management courses which had key supervision elements within them.
This broad base of training with its core elements of the cognitive, dynamic and behavioural insights of Transactional Analysis plus training on supervision process, together with many years of hands-on-experience, means that I bring a great deal to supervising coaches in a variety of contexts.
Throughout my career, being supervised has played and continues to play an essential part in my own professional practice. I’m delighted that supervision is increasingly becoming part of best coaching practice.
I had a particularly sensitive situation with a client and Edna was excellent at helping me towards understanding and manging the outcome. With her background in psychotherapy and supervising therapists, managers and coaches, she has the right set of skills to do this. Sarah Litvinoff.
Challenge and Support
Fiona has the enviable ability to simultaneously challenge and support me. She manges to get right alongside me, encouraging me to reflect on my practice taking into account all aspects of the field. She does this with compassion, imagination, humour and minimum necessary intervention. She is a great teacher and role model. I have benefitted enormously, personally and professionally, from working with her. Mags Goldthorp, Senior Practitioner, Children's Centre
