Exploring the Dance of Group Supervision
with CSA UK Programme Lead Will Medd and CSA Faculty Member Lou Yates
Following the success of our first programme, with a wave of encouraging feedback and enquiries, we’re delighted to offer this series again.
Held well, group supervision offers a powerful container for collective exploration that unearths deeper wisdom from the group. This experiential programme invites you into a rich inquiry: Who Are You as a Group Supervisor?
This has been designed for coaching supervisors who want to deepen their presence and expand their range when working with groups.
Spaces are limited and early interest has been high, we warmly invite you to register or get in touch to find out more.
Summary
This programme offers an opportunity to reveal, explore and deepen your experience of Who You Are as a Group Supervisor through experiential inquiry. Building on the CSA Coaching Supervision Diploma this programme takes the inquiry more explicitly into the group context.
As a qualified coach supervisor on this programme the invitation is for you to
- Experience different formats of group supervision, from highly structured, to creative, to being with the unknown.
- Explore a series of meta-reflections about your experience of group, including when you move in and out of relational presence, how your ‘story’ shapes your experience, where you place yourself in group, and who you are in group.
- Engage and deepen learning with your peer community
This programme will ask the ‘messy’ questions, such as:
- What is the relational presence you bring to group supervision? What is the energy you bring? What does knowing and not-knowing mean in group? When do you hold back, when do you impose?
- How does your story influence how you are in a group? Your family or origin, your attachment style, your beliefs about being in group? When do you shy away from aligning to the commitment of a group? Where are your triggers, your switch-off moments, your calling forth? What happens to you when contract is – or is felt to be - broken? When there is conflict?
- What is your style of holding group? Do you work with structure, guidance? Where do you position yourself - are you in or out of the group? Can you truly sit with not-knowing, with radical emergence? Are you willing to be vulnerable to not knowing?
Our approach will be based on a
- Experiential holding of different models of group supervision.
- Creating a collective learning environment
- Noticing group process together in real-time.
- Creating a process of meta-reflection during and beyond each session
What’s involved
The programme will run over 7 sessions, each 3 hours on Zoom. Following contracting in the first week, the subsequent sessions will involve a participant led group supervision experience and debrief. Participants will also have a one-to-one supervision session to prepare for their role in supervising the group and a follow-up debrief supervision. As part of the programme you’ll receive 12 hours of supervision.
"Dance of Group Supervision is a deeply resonant experience. Lou and Will role model embodied curiosity and presence, creating a space that invites both reflection and movement. The program offers new steps to enrich our own choreography as supervisors—models that are fluid and adaptable to our individual styles. One of its great gifts was the shared learning with so many experienced participants. Warm, practical, and genuinely enriching, I highly recommend it."

"Participating in the first edition of "Exploring the Dance of Group Supervision was a truly transformative experience for me. It helped me build more confidence in my group supervision practice, and gave me the opportunity to experiment with different approaches in a very safe and supportive environment. I learned so much from the experienced and generous facilitators, Will and Lou, and also from a wonderful group of peers—supervisors from around the world, all motivated and deeply engaged."
